... also a small addition from a "local"...

The Police (all types and flavours of local, regional and provincial) are VERY diligent looking for the following items along with speeders (10% over is usually safe except a school zone):

Distracted driving: this includes but is not limited to the action while driving of; drinking (obviously alcohol is in there but this could include anything; Cop's discretion), eating, holding a cell phone (use hands-free or a bluetooth), shaving, applying make-up, reading the newspaper (or a map), playing with the radio dial or a GPS, trying to swat the obnoxious-behaving kids in the back seat, etc... avoid while near a cop.

The use of seatbelts is law in Ontario and they look for it while you are mobile and will turn around to nab you.

Agressive driving (lane hoppers, tail-gaters, racers)...

Generally they won't bother you for hogging the left lane provided you are at or slightly above the speed limit... other drivers however will pass on the right, display the international single digit salute for lane hog and possibly pull in front of you rather close to your front bumper... we are Canadian, generally polite and honest so chances are they won't punt you like a Nascar race with Danica Patrick... and as Rick pointed out regarding firearms; you won't get shot on the highway as we don't really have that happen up here... but immigration has been rather high the past decade so all bets are off in my opinion...

Have a safe and peaceful, un-eventful drive in our beautiful province and I look forward to meeting you all in London.

Mike P

Say hey, eh?

Man, you Canadians offer advice like it was coming right from a native. And while I realize everything you said was true, I tend to forget a lot of it because it is the daily normal routine for me. Seat belts are pretty much law throughout North America. Since I am not allowed to use a cellphone at my ear anywhere in North America, it has been a hands-free operation for years - and I tend to forget that others don't have to necessarily live by the same rules.

Radar detectors? I go so slow, the OPP point and laugh as I go by.

At the border crossing into Canada:
"What is your citizenship?"
"US."
"What do you have with you besides your personal belongings?"
"Nothing."
"Do you carry any alcohol or tobacco?"
"No."
"Any firearms, weapons or pepper spray?"
"No."
"Anyone else in there with you?"
"No."
"How long will you be in Canada?"
"About 3 hours."
"Do you plan to make any stops?"
"No."
"Are you going straight through?"
"Yes."
"OK, you are released, head over to X-Ray."
"Thank you."

Marty summed it up pretty good, metric system and stronger beer, other than that you will think you are at home. Now if you were traveling 7 hours more east, you would be in the nations capital and I would warn you to expect hearing a lot of French. Good advice Rick, first time I visited Texas, nearly **** myself seeing people on the streets carrying guns, wild case of culture shock.
Safe drive everyone, see y'all in London, eh!

Ladies and gentlemen, we're bringing back style and panache to the Saturday night banquet. Don't be afraid to dress up not down. Don't worry if you would rather dress casual but dresses for the ladies and jackets for the gentlemen would be very welcome indeed!

I would like to try out the drag racing, have never done it before. What's the process? Do you just show up with the car and pay the fee and they let you race? Any safety equipment needed, is there a vehicle inspection? I looked at the track website and couldn't find any answers but there is a link to BI.

We have a full schedule of events on Friday starting with the tour of Steve Plunkett's Auto Salon at 9:30, BBQ lunch at Railway City Brewery at noon and drag racing at the St. Thomas Speedway at 1:30. No special equipment, checks or anything are required, just $20 per car with driver and $5 fan. We will be leaving directly from the Brewery at 1:00.
