Sorry to say that Art and Gladis won't be comming. I offered to pick them up on our way and Gladis was very excited, she realy wanted to go. But Art is afraid he'll have a hard time on the trip and doesn't want to be a bother to anyone. She won't come up without him and I can't blame her. She did ask us to bring some things for the auction and of course we'll get Art a shirt. See ya on Tuesday!! (if me, my car, or trailer can get across the border!) Mark 0715

Labatt Brewery Tour, Wednesday July 10, 10 AM. Please register with me first and make sure you read the details of this tour!

Everyone on the tour MUST wear closed toe, closed heel and flat footwear (running shoes preferred). Also, following our food safety policies, all tour guests MUST not wear earrings or any other facial piercings, necklaces, bracelets or watches, rings with jewels must be taped with medical tape (which we have). Anyone with medic alert necklaces can wear them under their clothing. Please make sure that everyone in your group is aware of these guidelines.
The tour takes about 2 hours and it consists of a full guided tour with headsets of the Brewing, Fermenting, Ageing and Packaging areas, a sampling session of Bud Light, Budweiser, Labatt Blue, Stella Artois and Keith's IPA. You will also tour a room that features our 1947 Streamliner and our 1919 Keg Truck on display. Everyone also receives a 15% discount coupon for merchandise at our Labatt Beer Store on site. (This standard tour includes walking with some stairs, however, ***anyone requiring the use of assistive measures to access our facility please let me know.***)
You can take pictures in the John Kinder Labatt Room (formerly known as the Amber Lounge) where the group does the sampling session and also in the room where the trucks are, but cameras are NOT allowed in the actual brewery. We lock them up while the group goes into the brewery and then you can have them back when you come back to the room for sampling. We also lock up all purses and bags.
Everyone will need to meet in the John Kinder Labatt Room at the brewery 15 minutes before the tour starts. To get to our parking lot you will need to get to the intersection of Horton St and Richmond St in London, Ontario. Then go south on Richmond St from Horton St, we will be the 3rd parking lot on the right hand side (west side) of Richmond St. It is a car parking lot right beside our transport truck staging lot. Parking is free, follow the signs and walkway to the John Kinder Labatt Room.
Everyone must bring in picture ID for proof of age.

Drop Dead Sexy

The Bricklin was the first and only production vehicle with powered gull wing doors. This is not Marty McFly's time machine. But like the DeLorean, which came after it, the Bricklin was a futuristic vehicle.

The Bricklin was manufactured in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada for exclusive sale in the United States. Production at the plant began in mid 1974 and continued through late 1975 with three model years resulting (1974, 1975 & 1976). There were 2854 cars built before Bricklin went bankrupt. An estimated 1500 still exist today. Bricklin International (BI) reports 570 active members with cars on the road and in restoration. Well liked by owners and the automotive press, the Bricklin was never produced in large enough numbers to be profitable.

The single model built was given the designation SV-1, for Safety Vehicle 1. Safety features included a built in roll cage, side guardrails and shock absorbing, 5-mph bumpers that receded into the car. It was not only safe in an accident, but had the power and handling to avoid one. The Bricklin far exceeded safety requirements of the time. In keeping with the safety theme, there was no ashtray or cigarette lighter.

The second distinguishing design feature of the Bricklin (besides the gull-wing doors) is the acrylic body. A vacuum forming process bonded color-impregnated acrylic to each fiberglass body panel. The Bricklin was delivered to the customer without paint. Minor scratches would be buffed out. The Bricklin came only in the 5 standout colors of: Safety Red, Safety White, Safety Green, Safety Orange and Safety Tan. All cars were black below the belt-line and had beige interiors.

Bricklin owners have a club which publishes a quarterly magazine and sponsors yearly meets on the east and west coasts.

Bricklin International will be holding their Grand National Meet from Wednesday July 10 to Sunday July 14 at the Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre located at 551 Windermere Road, London, Ontario N5X 2T1. The club will be hosting over 50 Bricklins from all original stock, to modified to full out custom. Planned events include a tour of Labatt Brewery, Fanshawe Pioneer Village, a poker run, Plunket Auto Salon, Railway City Brewery, St. Thomas Raceway Park, video presentations of Bricklin designer Herb Grasse (the Batmobile designer), The Entrepreneur by Jonathan Bricklin and the debut screening of Andrew Watsons SV1- The Bricklin Inquiry. Bricklin public display, banquet and auction.

To clarify the news release posted above; the "SV-1, Bricklin Inquiry" screening is a first cut showing (for B.I., family and friends) and not a debut. Using the "debut" term will exclude me from certain film festivals. Since there is little detail regarding the film in the release you can go to SV-1.com for information. See you in London.
