BRICKLIN INTERNATIONAL GATHERING, 2018 Livonia.where it all began
In 1971 Malcolm Bricklin formed a company called General Vehicles, Inc., and rented a building in Livonia, Michigan to design, engineer, and prototype a car that would carry his name and 47 years later we are pleased to invite you to come back to Livonia where it all began.
DATE: August 8 thru 12, 2018
HOST HOTEL: Embassy Suites, Livonia, Michigan
Price is $129 per night. The Hotel has set-up a website for you to register, heres the link: http://embassysuites.hilton.com/en/es/groups/personalized/D/DTTLIES-BI8-20180808/index.jhtml?WT.mc_id=POG
Or call them (734) 462-6000. Tell them youre with Bricklin International and our Code is BI8
Rate Includes: Complementary Managers Reception every night 5:30p to 7:30p Free Beer, Wine, and mixed drinks, plus hors d'oeuvres Complementary made to order Breakfast every morning.
The hotel also has a restaurant and lounge with a large lobby and seating area.
We will have a Hospitality room right off the lounge area and will use this for some events. The hospitality room will be set up with 40 seats and that will still leave us lots of room for Bricklinalia. The Hospitality room will open at noon on August 8th for those that arrive early. The Hotel will also block off a section of the parking lot just for us and provide a car washing area.
If you would like to check them out, just Google Embassy Suites Livonia, Michigan
There are also three full service restaurants within a very short walking distance from the hotel. Docs Sport Bar and Grille. (No relation to our own Doc Shreck) Dave and Busters Los Tres Amigos Plus just about any other type of restaurant you can think of within a 3 mile radius of the hotel. You wont be lacking for a place to eat, drink, and be merry.
The schedule:
August 8, 2018 Arrive at the Hotel. The hospitality room opens at noon. We may have a special event for those that arrive early or the day before, and are looking for something to do on the 8th. More on this in the follow-up to this article, in the next issue of the Brickline.
August 9, 2018 8:00am: Depart hotel for The Henry Ford Museum 9:00am: Arrive at The Henry Ford Museum for photo-op in front of this historic building. 9:30am: (or sometime shortly thereafter) Depart via bus from the museum to the Ford Rouge Factory tour. Buses leave every 20 minutes so we wont be rushed. Noon: Arrive back at The Henry Ford Museum for a self-guided tour. There are places to eat in the museum. Buses also leave the Factory every 20 minutes so you wont be rushed here either. 5:00pm: Museum closes and everyone must leave. Cost for the above: $31 per person 7:00pm: Bricklin History and Stories of what is was like to work at General Vehicles presented by Dave Niles former General Vehicle Engineer that worked with Malcolm Bricklin, Herb Grasse, and Terry Tanner, plus rest of the gang.
August 10, 2018 8:00am: Road Rally with special points of interests and surprises. 6:00pm: (or somewhere there abouts) Pizza party and Tech Review by Bob Hoffman and Earl Brown. Plus a run down Woodward Ave home of the Woodward Dream Cruise, which is officially the weekend after our event but cars from all over start to show up about 2 weeks early. The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world's largest one-day automotive event, drawing about 1.5 million people and 40,000 classic cars each year from around the globe. So there should be plenty of eye candy to observe even 10 days before the official date.
August 11, 2018 9:00am: Move cars to Main Street in Northville, MI (about 4 miles from hotel). The City of Northville will block-off a one-block section of Main Street in the center of downtown for us. This is where our judging event will take place and the cars will be staged for observation by the community. We heard from the attendees at the Dover meet that they liked the opportunity to walk around town and visit some of the shops and eateries, during the car judging. Northville is an upscale community with plenty of both and will surely not be a disappointment. 6:00pm: Cocktails at the Embassy suites 7:00pm: Move into the banquet room for dinner and the other stuff that occurs at a typical Bricklin banquet. This will be a sit-down dinner with a cash bar. Dinner choices are listed on the registration sheet and include salad, coffee, tea, iced tea, and desert.
We are excited to have the 2018 Bricklin Gathering in the Livonia area. Official registration forms are attached to this issue of the Brickline and also on the Bricklin Forum and Bricklin Facebook pages. I want this event to be as meaningful as possible for you, so if youve heard of something that is a must see while in southeastern Michigan, drop me a note and Ill see what we can do.
As with other events, we are looking for judges. If you are interested please let me know.
I hope to see everyone in Livonia.where it all began.
My contact information is on the registration form.

The 2018 Bricklin Meet in Livonia, Michigan is coming together nicely. Many of you have already registered and/or reserved hotel rooms or have called with your inquiries.
Those of you that have attended past events know that a major source of income for the club comes from our auction immediately following the dinner. Many of the items auctioned off actually come from other members. So if you have some Bricklin stuff or something you think would be of value to others, please contact me and let me know what you're bringing. If youre not going to attend the meet this year (we'll miss you) but would like to contribute something, feel free to send it to me and I'll make sure it get to the auction. Please keep in mind we are not looking for stuff that should have been tossed years ago, we are looking for items that you would be proud to pass on to others.
Of course, the legendary Brick is planned to be auctioned again and we hope it will bring a good price. If you haven't attended a Bricklin auction before, the Brick is a yearly tradition. It goes to the highest bidder, of course, and you get to keep it until the next auction. During this time, you add your name to the list of past brick owners for future generations to see and admire. Its sort-of a little slice of immortalityOkay maybe that was a reach but you get the point. Hope to see you in August.

Of course, I left out a lot of the details about the individual events because most of them have been previously posted.
If you haven't booked your room at the Embassy Suites by now you need to do so by Wednesday, July 18th. However, there are a couple members with rooms that they dont need so if you want one of these, let me know and well work it out.
If you want to register for the event you still can but please keep in mind, just because you have a room doesnt mean you are registered for the event. You need to fill out a registration and send it to me with your payment. Also the Meadow Brook Mansion tour and the Bricknic are not on the registration form because they were added after the form was published. If you want to attend these events the cost is $10 per person per event.
Thats all for now. Hope to see you in Livonia.
