Hi,
The Milwaukee Masterpiece which takes place August 27-28 next to Lake Michigan on the Milwaukee waterfront has selected the Automodello Bricklin SV1 as their Official Model.
This year the The Milwaukee Masterpiece celebrates Porsche, 50th anniversary of the Jaguar XKE, and Fabulous Fiberglas of which the Bricklin SV1 is now part of.
For questions, please call or email me; and, I will also be in Manassas with all the Automodello Bricklin SV1 models too.
Thanks, Jim

Probably NOT the place to post this but then again; who knows?
Life is very fragile and very limited. We have all witnessed and some lived through, the loss of members in the last 6 months or so and also the loss of "our" designer before that.
I have personally had the "half-year from hell"... cancer in the family, an aging Mom in a home and not settling... etc. etc... ad nauseum...
The hobby shared by all here, the things I have learned and more important; the people I have witnessed helping their fellow 'man' has impressed me to no end. The hobby is a root but the people make it happen for a lot of us to grow and also a lot of us to share our misery (be it Brick related or not...) with those that just might understand.
Recently, I have recovered from a major collapsed lung and most recently (last weekend) broken 2 ribs at home. I have slowed a bit and taken the time to reflect on my past and subsequently; my future. I encourage you all to do the same; regardless of your age.
None of us has chosen to do this thing alone and as a perfect example; this club and all the forums will prove that out. I will not be able to make the meet this summer, as much as I wanted to meet y'all and put some faces to 'handles'. I sincerely encourage all of you that will attend, to look around at your peers and share your stories, laughs, history and knowledge.
I plan to donate $100 to the club (in lieu of my absence from the meet) and challenge everyone else to do what you can to join me. I read on a post (somewhere) that the club needs money (and what club doesn't) so hey, my turn to cough up. After all, $100 only buys you a couple of tanks of gas... maybe... or a set of floor mats... lol.
I am still hunting for my first Bricklin and will succeed as soon as it's meant to be.
I am catching up now on past business with members and will make it right real soon... you know who you are.
Have fun and drive your Bricklin!!!! Get it out there!!!!

Here's my 2 cents ...
First of all, my understanding is that the club IS financially sound. I don't want anyone to get the impression this club is ready to collapse and we're begging for money. (We're just always begging for money! ) It hasn't always been that way - there have been periods where the Club's reserves were severely depleted or its position was 'in the red'. We've been fortunate to have had some VERY generous people (President Emeritus Scott Hanish comes immediately to mind) that donated large amounts of personal funds to keep the Club solvent. We've also had some fiscally responsible Presidents that have worked hard behind the scenes to put the club in a good position.
One of those past Presidents that proved to be fiscally responsible was our most recent President Emeritus - James Wajda. When James Wajda passed the Club Presidency to Steve Stratton, the club was in a solid financial position and had good cash reserves. During his Presidency he and the Directors decided to concentrate on building the Club's reserves - and they did just that with great success.
That's not to say the club can't always use your support. For instance, the Brickline (BIOC's quarterly magazine) has a minimum run that must be printed; regardless of membership and how many must actually be sent out. There's a break-even point where insufficient membership to support the minimum run will cause a drain upon those reserves the Directors have painfully accumulated (assuming no increase in membership dues). While I don't think we're below the break-even point, I do know they print more Bricklines than they send out (which is why you can get back-issues via Bricklinalia). If you do nothing else, please consider supporting the club by becoming a member.
Cash is great and always appreciated. Send it in. But don't forget that your support can come from items other than cash donations, too. Those that have attended the annual meets know BIOC has an auction at the banquet and award ceremony to raise additional funds. These auctions allow the club to keep membership dues lower than they might normally be by raising additional funds to support club operations. Substantial amounts of operating funds are made up by the sale of Bricklinalia items and those items donated for sale at the auction during the annual meets.
As far as the auction is concerned, the Club gets donations of all types - not necessarily Bricklin-related items. As an example, we have a member who is a furrier. Each year he would bring a 'Bricklin Bear' made of MINK for sale at the auction. I suspect that the Bears may not have cost HIM a great deal (possibly made from scraps that could not otherwise be used perhaps?) but were certainly highly prized by the bidders. A relatively small investment (on his part - the same thing would probably cost you or me an arm or leg) raised a great deal of funds for the club. Now, I could very well be wrong on this - those Bears were awesome and you could tell they were made with much love. The point is that a donation of something resulting from your passion, hobby, line of business or personal talent can also help the Club. (Of course, some of us will need to show up at the auction to BUY the stuff, too! )
I would also encourage members to attend the yearly meets when you can - especially if it's in your area and even if you can only make the Saturday events. I get to attend one every couple of years, I guess. I guarantee you will enjoy yourself and might even have an 'adventure' (assuming you drive your Bricklin! ). We've got a great group of people in this club and you should take any opportunity you can get to know them.
On a more personal note.
Mike - I am truly sorry to hear about your troubles. It does sound like the "half-year from hell" indeed. I also understand about your self-reflection, too. I had a life-changing accident in my late teens and have been on 'Bonus Time' ever since. When things go to hell-in-a-handbasket, I remember that it's good to even have the opportunity to have a bad day. Sounds like you've got the right attitude; hang in there.

Michael;
Please don't think I was in any way 'taking a shot' at the club's finances. I apologize if it came off that way; it was in no way my intention. Thanks for the outline; I have learned more about the club, yet again!
... and thank you for your wishes; I am sure we aren't the only ones with stories to tell...
