USA - KY - Lexington - 2010 Bricklin Nationals

2010 June 16, 17, 18, 19, 20

June 16 to June 20th 2010 BRICKLIN /DELOREAN MEET; LEXINGTON KY

Every meet is successful in its own way but the 2008 Bricklin Delorean meet in Gettysburg was the most successful in terms of participation. We had a total of 47 Bricklins at the show. This was the most Bricklins that I have seen in one place. Toronto did have 51 cars in 1991and Frankenmuth in 1994 had 44 cars. But other than these meets; we average about 34 cars per show.
There were quite a few complaints concerning the Gettysburg show so I want to stress what we have done differently!

The meet hotel is the Marriot at Griffin Gate in Lexington Ky. This is the same one as the Delorean Club. So we will all be in one hotel. That was the major issue last meet that we were at a different hotel. That mistake has been rectified, only gullwing owners will be staying at the Marriott.
Our hospitality suite will be at the host hotel along with the Delorean hospitality suites. All Suites will be open to all Bricklin members. This includes the Back to Future store/museum, Delorean electric car display, Delorean car show museum and the Delorean Car Show hospitality suite.
Now that we are at the same hotel! There will be a DJ in the parking lot on Thursday/Friday night!
Separate banquet and welcome parties will be for Bricklin owners only!
There were also lots of compliments:
People loved driving around with all the other Gullwing cars! Passing Bricklins and Deloreans on the road and waving.
The show was huge with over 200 Gullwing towns
Lots more to do
Lots more to see
Bus tours
Bigger show with lots more people and much more excitement
Here is what we have planned for the show so far:
Herb Grasse and Tom Monroe will be giving an expose on the Bricklin design and engineering. This will be an incredible assortment of some never seen photos on Bricklin design and production.
Delorean design and production discussion that Bricklin owners are invited to attend!
Bus Tour of the Lexington bluegrass Parkway which includes a special stop at a private horse farm. Driving tour to the Kentucky Horse Farm! Only two miles from the hotel and caravan to Bourbon distillery!
Back to the Future personalities walking the show.
Bricklin and Delorean Grand show; In 2008 it featured 47 Bricklins and 157 Deloreans. We will also have a co-meet with a large regional British Car show. Indications are that they will have a third show with all types of classic cars. The objective is to have over 400 cars at the show.
The sheer joy as to driving around Lexington with 200 Gullwing cars.
Wednesday:
Arrival: Hospitality Suite opens at 7PM
Thursday:
AM on your own
2 PM Herb Grasse Design Presentations on the Bricklin
PM Welcome Cocktail Party; Per person charge for free cocktails and Southern appetizers
Mingle with Delorean owners/Delorean and Bricklin suites open; band playing at or near picture site. Pictures taken of all Bricklin and Delorean cars and group picture of all participants.
Friday:
AM Bus tour of Horse Farm and distillery and or Driving tour of Horse Park and Distillery.
PM: Herb Grasse n(Bricklin designer) and Tom Monroe (Bricklin enginer) engineering presentation
Hospitality Suite
Saturday:
Car Show 9AM to 3PM on Marriott grounds. British Cars / Delorean Cars /Bricklin Cars / Misc Cars; Live DJ at event.
3 to 4 PM Directors meeting
5:30 PM Banquet hall opens; Dinner at 6:30 PM
Meet Registration forms will be released in the January Brickline
The Marriott Griffin Gate is a beautiful resort that features indoor/outdoor pools, Championship 18 hole golf, full spa and a great business center. It will be the show site for the huge outdoor show on Saturday june 19th 2010! To make reservations call: (800) 228-9290. Mention the Bricklin Room Block on those dates that you are attending. $129.00 per night group room rate!

This is just a question and I'm not looking to start anything. I'm just looking for an explanation so I can understand the reasoning for a joint meet.

Thanks

Not having been able to attend the Hamptons meet and not knowing what was discussed about next years I'm curious as to why it's going to be a joint one with the Delorean club. Is the following paragraph the reason why?

Every meet is successful in its own way but the 2008 Bricklin Delorean meet in Gettysburg was the most successful in terms of participation. We had a total of 47 Bricklins at the show. This was the most Bricklins that I have seen in one place. Toronto did have 51 cars in 1991 and Frankenmuth in 1994 had 44 cars. But other than these meets; we average about 34 cars per show.

I hope no one objects to my opinion on this question..Historically as small as this club it is difficult to find someone that is willing and able to organize an event like this.. Over the years it seems like it is always the same people who are willing to take it on..By joining forces with Ken (from the delorean group) who is a fantastic meet organizer, it gives our club the opportunity to have a meet in a new area.

A big benefit at the last joint meet was meeting a whole new crowd of car people and seeing and doing things that usually did not occur at the normal bricklin meets..

P.S. I really hope we have those snazzy badges too..

We had a chance to go to Lexington and participate as equals. Which is cool but it is also fun to particpate in a really big event. Gettysburg was great but it could have been better. We could right the wrong of staying at two seperate hotels. In addition, no one came forward during the year and volunteered to be a meet director. We did hear a half hearted play for seven springs PA; But I will not support a meet with room rates of $189 per night. Money is waaaay to tight these days and we would not get much participation. So Lexington was the clear choice!!! Lots to do, same hotel and lots going on! It will be a riot!

I am for getting something a little more south than most of the meets. So this is an opportunity to see how that works out. I am actually hoping to get my car there.

If room rates are an issue ,whom ever negotiated these didn't do very well,The travelocity price is $10 a night less but of course since the whole hotel has been booked they are not available. Not bitching about price, and I will probably be there, just waiting for the date of a wedding I have to go to england, as long as it doesn't conflict I will be there

your mileage may vary, parental guidance is advised, call before you dig, consult your
doctor, action figures sold separately, see a qualified tax professional, mind the gap, may contain peanuts, no user serviceable parts inside, offer void in Nebraska, batteries not included

The more cars, the better. I think, with equal participation, and a reasonable cost per night, this will be a great event. I am hoping to have VIN# 2856 done for it, but we will have to see. As for other locations, if people are interested in hosting a meet for 2011, by all means, step up to the plate. Seven Springs for 2011 has been mentioned, but again, only if the rates are reasonable are most people going to attend. We do have members that are not wealthy and that live on a fixed income, so anything that can be done to keep costs down for those members is needed and appreciated.
Just my two cents worth.

Yes I agree. Rates have to be reasonable. That is why seven springs just would not work. I think $129 per night is the top that we can really go. The Delorean club negotiated the rates about a year ago when the economy was better. After visiting the hotel I think it is worth it. It is a FANTASTIC!!!! Better than anyplace we have stayed recently. If any one is interested in hosting the 2011 meet; Step up now!!!!

I just made my reservations around 5:05PM EDT and the rate I was quoted was $119.00 a night not $129.00. She double checked and said $119.00. I don't have any complaints.

See you there (fingers crossed)
