... so I'm off tomorrow for a long 2 minute drive to this event... Last year there was an orange Brick that was pretty rough to say the least... the owner wasn't too friendly (so un-Bricklinish I thought) but I hope to be there early so 2724 will be front and centre... my question would be; is it advisable to "display" with the doors open for 6 hours? Will they shift any more than they already have? I don't have any of those cylinder supports so... I am looking for advice from you seasoned vets!... hehehe...
oh ya, I really hope I win a door prize!!!... hehehe...

AFAIC, letting the doors opened for hours doesn't do much wrong. Mine were successfully let opened for a few days for a leak test. The doors are obviously heavy for their own frames, but it doesn't make much difference on my car. I guess the weight on the frames has already taken its toll in 38 years.
I believe door braces won't help either because the doors will anyway be supported at the cylinders' point. Better have struts in good condition (no more than 10 years if my memory serves well).
Jim, I'm not sure why the battery would be affected. Even if the doors go down after a while, that won't turn the compressor on.
I would suggest turning off your buttons to prevent monkeying and making sure people mind their head. Once, a f...... idiot, I mean an awkward onlooker tried to shut a door by pushing it down! I seized his arm and snapped at him before he did any wrong. But anyway the air cylinders should work safely as bumpers. Some others might get seated without asking.
You may start with doors closed, open just one or both for a short time, keep an eye on them and close them as soon as you feel uncomfortable.
From my experience, people have been much respectful and have hardly monkeyed with #2643. According to the kind of event (and the kind of people coming to it), I may let my doors opened while being a few yards away. |

My biggest problem is having to stay with the car and make sure no one hits there head when they look in or walk by. They are just not use to it and there is always someone that hits their head even after I had said something to them.
Normally when I go to a local cruise I will leave my doors down so I can walk around and look at the other cars. Then open the doors when I get done.
I believe the car looks good and unique both ways, but with the doors up you get attention from further away. |

I believe James is concerned with having the dome light on for hours. Either install something to disable the door switch or remove the bulb or fuse. |

just pull the fuse for the interior lights, Mine has been half pulled for years, 2884 drivers door has been open for years

Stuart yes...I was referring to the interior lights draining the battery.
People often touch when not invited to...especially if your not arround.
From a safety stand point..I bump my head reguraly.. :)
Do you have hydraulic doors or air doors?
End of the day...do what you want....and see what happens :)

... it was a good show!... over 1100 cars of all types... I had the doors open all the time I was near it and closed when un-attended by myself or my Wife. I have the remote doors but didn't need to "capture" any "sneakers"...
I was very surprised how many folks recognized the car, knew a bit of history and also beamed at it being Canadian!... she was only mis-identified as a DMC about 15% of the time...
I was positioned on the front lawn, right on the curve of the pathway from the front lawn, through the trees to the back lawn and parking lot... I got there at 7:45 and was placed front and centre with lots of space (after the '57 Chev left at about 10:00... he shoe-horned in at 9:15 and found it too tight pretty quickly)... I wanted to move a bit to the right but the Lincoln was coming and going all day doing "test drives" for the sale of it and the owner wasn't very "attentive" of his surroundings so I stayed away from him... at one point there were 15 or so folks at once so we needed the space! I am sure folks whacked their heads but I missed it.
My headlights decided not to co-operate at all and continue to be "up" in my garage... my carb will be swapped this week and then I will start the process of diagnosis of the vacuum system... they worked on Thursday and it rained on Friday... ah, but it's a Brick... I refuse to lose my Bricklin wink so no other solution is acceptable to me... I have all the parts on the shelf for replacement except the Relay... I have a front bumper tank and a single relay system as well as my Brickline July 2012 'process manual' to attack the project...
I definitely urge any local folks to hit this next year as it is a "you name it; it's here" kinda show and a LOT of 'specific style' car clubs too... the Brick was definitely a hit...

I manage to hit a number of good car shows in eastern Ontario every year (1189 is a good driver but not a show car but it is well known around town), brick is always a major hit with the general public, often looked down on by the car guys...some of my friends jeered pretty good when I won "best north american-non ford, gm or chrysler", interesting class though isn't it.
I just love driving it, 70's vintage, rear wheel drive, bullet-proof engine and tranny, cool design and yeah, for my colleagues in green, the girls love that green!
Can't wait for the meet in 2013. |
